The big question on everyone’s mind when it comes to the Tacoma truck has been whether Amazon will buy the truckyard, which was built by Toyota and owned by General Motors.
But the truck is now in a state of flux as Amazon looks to accelerate its expansion into the global transportation market.
The deal to buy the Tacoma is expected to close in the third quarter of next year, according to sources familiar with the matter.
The company is now looking to buy more than half the company’s inventory of trucks.

The deal will allow Amazon to take full control of the truckyards operations, which have been managed by GM since the early 1990s.
GM is expected pay Amazon $5.8 billion for the Tacoma, with $2.4 billion in upfront payments.
Amazon is already looking to accelerate growth in its global trucking business.
The trucking industry has been under pressure as demand for electric vehicles has exploded in recent years.
Tesla, the electric-car company, plans to spend more than $1 billion this year on trucking operations, with its goal to have 500,000 electric vehicles on the road by 2020.
But that growth has not been enough to keep up with the demand for trucks.
As the world has become more connected, people are using more trucks and driving more.
That has caused the industry to shrink, said Miller.
The Tacoma will have to be able to keep pace with the growing demand for the truck, which is what Amazon is looking to do.
“We expect to make significant improvements in terms of the quality of our products,” said GM in a statement.
